CONTACT LENS FITTING PROTOCOL
Initial Lens Fitting
An up to date eye examination will be required before we can proceed with the contact lens consultation. During the consultation, we will assess your prescription and discuss your requirements from lens wear. We will also examine the front surface of the eye and take certain measurements and then select a suitable lens based on our findings and your lifestyle needs.
In most cases, we are able to fit you with trial lenses available at the practice but these may need to be ordered for you.
Once fitted and the lenses have been assessed in your eyes, you will be able to take them away to trial. If you are new to wearing contact lenses, you will need to be taught how to insert and remove them first before you can take them away.
Contact Lens Teach
If you are new to wearing contact lenses, we will teach you how to insert and remove them safely. This may seem daunting but rest assured we will guide you through the process until you are confident to try the lenses at home.
End of Trial
New contact lens fittings will need to be checked after 1-2 weeks to assess the fitting, comfort and vision with the lenses. We’ll also assess your contact lens wear over the trial period and address any questions that you may have.
Once the trial period has successfully been completed, contact lenses can be ordered.
Contact Lens After Care
Contact lenses should be assessed in the eye regularly in order to ensure clear vision, good comfort & maintain optimum ocular health.
In general contact lenses should be checked six monthly or annually depending on how often they are worn. Extended wear lenses or in certain cases, particular contact lens patients, may require more frequent check ups. At Unia Opticians we will always give you the best advise so that you can continue to wear your lenses safely and enjoy their benefits.
